Geralmente:

Some is used in positive sentences.

Any is used in negative sentences.

There are some cars on the road.

There aren't any cars on the road.

*Você pode falar:

There are cars on the road. 

Porém com some é mais popular.

I drank some coffee this morning.

I didn't drink any tea this morning.

English speakers usually (but not always) use any in questions:

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Are they any good movies in the theatres?

Did you buy clothes at the mall?

Some is used in questions when we are offering something or requesting (asking for) something:

Do you want some water?

Would you like some help?

May I have some more bread?

Could I borrow some money?

Use some and any with plural nouns or uncountable nouns. Use a/an with singular nouns:

- She gave me some candy.

- I don't want a piece of cake.

- There aren't any windows in the room. (negativa)

- She doesn't eat any meat.

Sometimes English speakers use no to give sentences a strong negative meaning:

Representa quantidade - nenhum

Em português eu posso falar quando não tenho algo:

ex: Eu não tenho dinheiro.

Eu não tenho nenhum dinheiro. 

Quando usamos nenhum em português damos uma enfase na quantidade que é nada.

Em inglês ficaria:

Eu não tenho dinheiro = I don't have money.

Eu não tenho nenhum dinheiro = I have no money.

*Repare que em inglês não se fala I don't have no money. Porque como o no é negativa você não precisa usar don't. Ou você usa don't ou usa no.

Seria como se dissesse: 

Eu tenho nenhum dinheiro.

I have no money.
