Parallel structure is a balance. It's a balance between ideas in a sentence. Now when you write if you have multiple ideas or perhaps a series of points or certain related ideas these ideas need what we call a geammatical balance of grammar in the sentence between ideas.

If you have a serius of thing of ideas in a sentence you have to match your nouns with nouns ...

- nouns with nouns,

- verbs with verbs,

- adjectives with adjectives, etc.

- phrases with phrases

- clause with clauses

not grammatically parallel:

playing with my kids -phrase com ing

WRITING: PARALLEL STRUCTURE

Parts of speech: 

words can be: Noun (pronouns) /verb /adverb /preposition/adjectives (determiners) /conjunctions /interjections

phrases: A group of words that are not a complete thought/does not have subject + verb agreement

clauses: subject + verb agreement in a sentence (independent/dependet) 

Independent: I ran. I ran to the park. (Eu podia falar comente I ran que tem sentido)

Dependent: After it snowed... 

We have parallel structure: correctly use parts of speech, phrases or clases in a list in our writing.

Ex. I watch movies, TV shows and plays.
