preposição

Video bom em inglês:
I was locked out.(adj.)
The door is locked and you canot get in the building.

Verb + to + infinitive or verb + gerund
With the above verbs, there is generally no difference in meaning in either verb ...
- start
- begin
- continue
- like
- love
- hate
- prefer

mesmo significado
Ex:
- I love navigating with a map.
- I love to navigate with a map.
- We prefer staying in luxury hotels.
- We prefer to stay in luxury hotels.
- We started studying at 8:30am.
- We started to study at 8:30am.

Podem ser seguidos por gerundio ou infinitivo mas o significado muda:
The following verbs can be used in either verb pattern, but the meaning changes.
- Stop
- Try
- Remember/ Forget

STOP + infinitive = explains the reason for sttoping an action.
Ex: We stopped to get some gas.
We should stop to take a break.

STOP + GERUND = explains the action that stops.
Ex:
- Okay everybody, please stop talking!
- We should stop eating so much fatty food.
- When are you going to stop smoking?

I was doing my homework. I stopped to eat a snack.
I have lost weight. I stopped eating snacks.

Try
TRY + INFINITE = Means to make an effort to do something. Maybe this thing is difficult or even impossible.
Ex:
- She tried to call me last night, but I was in the shower.
- You should really try to come to class on time.
- You will not remember new vocabulary if you don't try to use the words everyday.

TRY + GERUND = This pattern is used either to explaing doing something to get experience (doing something for the first time) or experimenting with something to solve a problem.

EX: We tried bungee jumping last weekend. (Doing something for the first time)
I have never tried doing that. (Doing something for the first time)

I tried to ski last weekend, but it was too hard.
eu tentei mas era muito dificil
I tried sking last weekend, and it was fun.
eu tentei pela primeira vez
duvida se é um gerundio não consigo *trocar por um nome

- If you can't sleep, you should try counting sheep. (Experimenting with something to solve a problem)
- If just can't find the product in any stores in this city. I think I'm going to try looking on the internet. (Experimenting with something to solve a problem)

REMEMBER/FORGET + INFINITIVE = When we use this pattern, the infinitive action happens at the same time or after remember or forget. This is usually used to explain that something was or wasn't done.
Quando usamos esse padrão, a ação no infinitivo acontece ao mesmo tempo ou depois de lembrar ou esquecer. Isso geralmente é usado para explicar que algo estava ou não foi feito.
*esqueci ou lembrei de afazeres

Ex:
- I remembered to do my homework last night. (First, I thought about it, then I did it)
Lembrei de fazer meu dever de casa ontem à noite. (Primeiro, pensei nisso, então eu fiz isso)

- She forgot to call me last night. (She didn't call me because she didn't think about it)
- Esqueceu de me ligar na noite passada. (Ela não me ligou porque não pensou nisso)

- Please don't forget to buy milk. (Think about it, and then do it)
- Não esqueça de comprar leite. (Pense sobre isso e depois faça isso)

- he didn't remember to wake up earlier than normal. (He didn't think about it, so he didn't do it.)
- ele não lembrou de acordar antes do normal. (Não pensou nisso, então ele não fez isso.)

REMEMBER/ FORGET + GERUND = When we use this verb pattern, the gerund action happened earlier. This is usually used to discuss memory.
Quando usamos esse padrão de verbo, a ação do gerúndio  ocorreu anteriormente. Isso geralmente é usado para discutir a memória.
*o que eu lembro de ter feito ou não

- WOW, I don't remember doing that at all. (I don't remember now that I did that earlier.)
WOW, não me lembro que fiz isso tudo. (Não me lembro agora que fiz isso anteriormente).

- She forgot meeting me. (She didn't remember that she had ,met me before.)
Ela esqueceu que me conheceu (Ela não lembrou que ela tinha, e eu antes.)

- I will never forget coming here. ( I will never forget in the future that I came here earlier.)
Nunca vou esquecer que vim aqui. (Nunca vou esquecer no futuro que eu vim aqui mais cedo).

- Do you remember saying that? (Do you remember now that you said that earlier?)
Você se lembra de dizer isso? (Você lembra agora que você disse isso anteriormente?)

I forgot to do my homework. Can I copy yours?

I forget doing my homework
You did your homework - you just don't have the memory

I forget to do my homework
I don't do my homework - I have nothing to turn in

INFINITIVE
VERB OBJECT TO INFI.

- She asked to go to the bathroom.
- John would love to visit France one day.
- You promised to buy that for me!
- We don't need to do that again.

Both verbs are the subject's actions:
- She asked to go to the bathroom.
(She = asked, go)
- John would love to visit France one day.
(John = would love, visit)

Because both verbs in the above verb pattern are the subject's actions, what happens when we want to say an object's action?

John: Lucy, could you open the window please?
In aboe sentence, what can we say for John's action?
John = asked
Lucy = open the window

John asked Lucy to open the window.
verb + object + infinitive

- ask
- command
- force
- order
- request
- cause
- want/would like
- advise
- choose
- get
- permit
- teach
- expect
- allow
- dare
- help
- persuade
- tell
- need
- beg
- encourage
- invite
- recommend
-
-

The negative can be a little confunsing when using this verb pattern.

John: Lucy, you really shouldn't put your feet on the table like that.

Now, what is John's action? Think of a verb to use:
- advise
- recommend
- warn

John advised/recommended/warned Lucy not pout her feet on the table.
quando o objetvo faz uma ação e tem negativa vc coloca not

This can be confusing because the second verb should be used in the negative in the above example.

ex:
John: I'm going to the party.
Lucy: Wich party?
John: Phil's party! Aren't you going?
Lucy: No, he didn't invite me!
He didn't - pq he é o sujeito e não objeto

vivek didn' t ask Rosa to study English.
He advised me not to listen to him anymore.
me = objeto então not

we can use gerunds with sense verbs
I heard John making breakfast in the kirchen.
We saw you waiting for the bus.
53:00
