VERBOS SEGUIDO DE INFINITIVO

Verbos seguidos de infinitivo

*Intend – pode ser seguido de infinitivo e as vezes por gerúndio sem mudança de significado.

* Advise –Se tiver um objeto depois é usado com infinitivo:

He advised me to buy a Fiat.

He advised buying a Fiat.

I was advised to buy a Fiat.

 Alguns verbos são seguidos de objeto e depois o infinitivo:
Mr Lee told me to be here at tem o’clock.
O Sr. Lee disse-me para estar aqui à hora.
Told (verbo) + Me (objeto) + to be (verbo no infinitivo)

The police ordered the driver to stop.
A polícia ordenou ao motorista que parasse.

Mas quando esses verbos vão para a passiva eles são seguidos imediatamente do infinitivo:
I was told to be here at tem o’clock.
Foi-me dito para estar aqui às dez horas.

The driver was ordered to stop.
O motorista foi ordenado parar.

Alguns verbos vão poder tanto ser o verbo + o infinitivo quanto o verbo + objeto + infinitivo.

I expect to pass the test.

Espero passar no teste.

I expect Mary to pass the test.

Espero que Mary passe no teste.

Expect (verbo) + Mary (objeto) + to pass (infinitivo)

	AFFORD	Não posso comprar isso.	I can’t afford to buy it.
	AGREE	Eles concordaram em nos ajudar.	They agreed to help us.
		Tom concordou em me ajudar.	Tom agreed to help me.
	APPEAR	Ela parece estar cansada.	She appears to be tired.
		Sua saúde parecia ser melhor.	His health appeared to be better.
	ARRANGE	Eu irei me reunir com você no aeroporto.	I’ll arrange to meet you at the airport.
		Naomi arranjou para ficar com seu primo em Miami.	Naomi arranged to stay with her cousin in Miami.
	ASK	Ele pediu para vir conosco.	He asked to come with us.
	BEG	Ele implorou para vir conosco.	He begged to come with us.
	CARE	Não gosto de ver esse show.	I don’t care to see that show.
		Ele não gosta de participar da atividade.	He doesn't care to participate in the activity.
	CLAIM	Ela afirma conhecer uma famosa estrela de cinema.	She claims to know a famous movie star.
		Ela afirmou ser uma princesa.	She claimed to be a princess.
	CONSENT	Ela finalmente concordou em se casar com ele.	She finally consented to marry him.
	DECIDE	Decidi sair na segunda-feira.	I have decided to leave on Monday.
		Decidimos ir ao Havaí.	We decided to go to Hawaii.
	DEMAND	Exijo saber quem é responsável.	I demand to know who is responsible.
		Ele exigiu falar com o Sr. Harris.	He demanded to speak to Mr. Harris.
	DESERVE	Ela merece ganhar o prêmio.	She deserves to win the prize.
		Ele merece ir para a prisão.	He deserves to go to jail.
	EXPECT	Espero entrar na pós-graduação no outono.	I expect to enter graduate school on the fall.
	FAIL	Ela não conseguiu devolver o livro à biblioteca na hora.	She failed to return the book to the library on time.
		Ele não conseguiu dinheiro suficiente para pagar o novo projeto.	He failed to get enough money to pay for the new project.
	HAPPEN	Ela estava no banco quando foi roubada.	She happened to be at the bank when it was robbed.
	HOPE	Espero começar a faculdade este ano.	I hope to begin college this year.
	HESITATE	Ela hesitou em me contar o problema. D	She hesitated to tell me the problem.
	GET (BE ALLOWED TO)	ebbie chega ao concerto na próxima semana! Por que não posso?	Debbie gets to go to the concert next week! Why can't I?
	HESITATE	Não hesite em pedir minha ajuda.	Don’t hesitate to ask for my help.
	HOPE	Jack espera chegar na próxima semana.	Jack hopes to arrive next week.
	INTEND	Ele pretende ser um bombeiro.	He intends to be a firefighter.
		Pretendemos visitá-lo na próxima primavera.	We intend to visit you next spring.
	LEARN	Ele aprendeu a tocar piano.	He learned to play the piano.
		Aprendi a falar japonês quando era criança.	I learned to speak Japanese when I was a kid.
	MANAGE	Ela conseguiu terminar seu trabalho cedo.	She managed to finish her work early.
		Ele conseguiu abrir a porta sem a chave.	He managed to open the door without the key.
	MEAN	Não queria machucar seus sentimentos.	I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings.
	OFFER	Eles nos ofereceram para nos ajudar.	They offered to help us.
		Frank ofereceu para nos levar ao supermercado.	Frank offered to drive us to the supermarket.
	PLAN	Estou planejando fazer uma festa.	I’m planning to have a party.
		Nós planejamos ir para a Europa neste verão.	We plan to go to Europe this summer.
	PREPARE	Preparamos-nos para recebê-los.	We prepared to welcome them.
	PRETEND	Ele finge não entender. A criança fingiu ser um monstro.	He pretends not to understand.
		A criança fingiu ser um monstro.	The child pretended to be a monster.
	PROMISE	Eu prometo não chegar atrasado.	I promise not to be late.
	REFUSE	Eu me recuso a acreditar em sua história.	I refuse to believe his story.
		O guarda se recusou a deixá-los entrar no prédio.	The guard refused to let them enter the building.
	SEEM	Esse gato parece ser amigável.	That cat seems to be friendly.
		Nancy parecia estar desapontada.	Nancy seemed to be disappointed.
	STRUGGLED	Eu lutava para ficar acordado.	I struggled to stay awake.
	SWEAR	Ela jurou dizer a verdade.	She swore to tell the truth.

	VOW	Ele prometeu se vingar.	He vowed to get revenge.
	WAIT	Aguardo para ouvir de você.	I’ll wait to hear from you.
		Ela esperou para comprar um bilhete de cinema.	She waited to buy a movie ticket.
	WANT	Eu quero te contar uma coisa.	I want to tell you something.
	WISH	Ela deseja vir conosco.	She wishes to come with us.
	YEARN	Melanie ansia viajar em algum lugar exótico.	Melanie yearns to travel somewhere exotic.

	Verbo + objeto + gerundio
Ele me disse para sair.	He told me to leave.
Ele decidiu ir embora.	He decided to leave.
Ele pediu para eu sair.	He asked to leave/me to leave.
Ele se ofereceu para partir.	He offered to leave.
Ela queria que eu saísse.	She wanted me to leave.
Ele concorda em sair.	He agree to leave.
Ela gostaria de sair / me deixar.	She would like to leave/ me to leave.
Ele me avisou para sair.	He warned me to leave.
Ela se recusou a sair.	She refused to leave.
Ele prometeu ir embora.	He promised to leave.
Ela esperava sair.	She hoped to leave.
Ele me permitiu ir embora.	He permitted me to leave.
Ela esperava que eu saísse / sair.	She expected me to leave/ to leave.
Ele me obrigou a sair.	He forced me to leave.
Ela me permitiu ir embora.	She allowed me to leave.
Ele fingiu ir embora.	He pretended to leave.
